What is Community Planning?

Local involvement is central to the planning and management of our surroundings.

Community planning is an important way to engage, involve and enable local people and / or communities to shape and influence the areas in which they live and work.

Community participation in the planning process can lead to better decision-making, as local knowledge needs and circumstances are considered by developers, residents and neighbourshoods, as well as Local Authorities. It also builds local partnerships between various interest groups who can share knowledge and understanding and work together. Community planning often results in a better informed and empowered local community, building 'local' capacity for management of development and regeneration activities including training in techniques to enable communities to articulate their vision. Planning Aid for London (PAL) provides the expert training and support to make this possible.
